Scope & Content: 'Statement made to me, Robert Cyril Woodlands Brown by my father, John Archibald Brown, at Teranford, Laureston Road, Douglas on September 19th 1920. My father, John Archibald Brown, was the eldest child of James Brown, founder of the Isle of Man Times'.

"My grandfather told me that he lived in Nova Scotia (presumably in Halifax); ran away to sea at about 9 years of age, made 18 voyages in the Slave Trade (Guinea to America)22 stone weight. 6ft 4 inches high. His name was Cato. In due course he entered the Navy and ultimatly became chief Boatwain on Nelson's ship 'Victory' & was in that capacity on Victory at battle of Trafalgar. After leaving Navy he settled in Liverpool & there he worked in a foundry".
