Annotated with a pasted on note by R H Quine in bottom left hand corner (possibly a copy reply to the Commissioners) which reads,
'Through the love of my family and my kinsfolk and the services of my fellow men in all parts of the world of every race and colour I have been given life and everything I have, or ever had. / I have lived for a hundred years. On my birthday I received many scores of letters telegrams and cards from old friends in all parts of the kingdom and abroad and I thought "Of the hearts that loved me long ago". I give you thanks for your kindness. I send you a card which may help you as it has helped me.'
