Scope & Content: James Brew of Sulby and Alfred Christian of Sulby Glen talk to H.M. Rogers, H. Rogers, J.W. Radcliffe and Walter Clarke about hill carts and rural life. The conservation begins with a description of the differences between north and south carts; hill carts called bogeys; how James made four hill carts for the Kneens; larch, for the carts, taken from Milntown to Cronk Garroo and cut in a saw pit; description of cart made for James Martin, originally from Ireland but then residing at Cronk y Dhooney; description and uses of sleds/sledges made for Gilbert Corteen of Maughold.

They talk about school days, punishments and Tommy Cooil; great-grandfather John Christian moving to Sulby from Silverburn in the south; father as joiner and millwright; repair of axle at Kella Mill; building of Mill House; Craine family; joiners' average wage; Thompson family of the starch mill; emigration to America and demise of farms; Druidale; fish cart deliveries, price of herrings; best places to live on the Isle of Man for mutton from the mountains, turf from the Curraghs and the beach; turf cutting areas and storage; men from Sulby walking to Laxey Mines to work; and men going from Primrose Hill to Snaefell Mine.
