Scope & Content: Mrs Corkish talks about school days; family meals and how they were prepared and cooked; furniture used in her grandparents’ home and how household activities were carried out; how joiner made grandmother’s furniture; food supplies, including bread and how they grew vegetables; family members who lived with them; how washing, drying and ironing was done; bathing once a week; ‘earth closet’ (toilet) outside; herring brought from Peel, usually August, which they would salt.

(Recording cuts off abruptly at end and there is a continual background noise from passing cars outside.)
