Scope & Content: Track 1: Levi Greggor talks to Margaret Killip about Peel and his time as a fisherman from 1903 to 1947. Levi recalls the games he played as a boy in Peel including marbles, top and whip, rounders, game of ‘kitty’. He talks about fishing superstitions including the third boat, turning with the sun, not saying rabbits or salmon. He describes the fishing charms including the story of fisherman sent to Nan Wade at St John’s; the crosh curn; marsh marigold. John talks about his role as admiral of the herring fleet; fishing herring at Maryport.
Track 2: Levi talks about river fishing and the boats he worked on, starting with his father’s boat, the nobby 'Moss Rose'; fishing in Kinsale, Berwick-on-Tweed, Lerwick and north of Scotland; working on steam drifter built in Peel; Peel boatyards; time taken to sail to fishing grounds. They end with discussing Teare’s sailmaker records.
