Scope & Content: Track 1: Monologue by Mr Kelly reminiscing about his work and life. He talks about the Laxey miners walking from Baldrine to the mine and farmers ploughing with horses and cutting corn with binder; weather in his childhood and winter sledding and ice-skating on Garwick lake; arrival of the motor car in the Isle of Man; Mrs Robert Fayle of Barroose Farm and his grandfather John Kelly, fisherman of Baldrine. He recalls the herbs cures and charms administered by Mrs Fayle and by his grandfather John Kelly; cures and medicine using flowers and lichen.

Track two: Mr Kelly continues to talk about natural cures for babies, children and farm animals including Mrs Fayle’s charm for headaches and his grandfather’s charms and cures. He talks about Canon Quine who was a friend of his grandfather John Kelly, and how they spoke Manx Gaelic. John talks about charms and customs including the cuirn cross and sweeping dust at the crossroads; customs at funerals; weddings; tea parties; the Mheillea or harvest supper; Sundays of his childhood; television today; and the decline of the Manx dialect.
