Scope & Content: Description of the area where Mr Kissack lived and the crofts in the area. His life is described - he quarried stone for the Douglas War Memorial from Quilliam's granite quarry at Stoney Mountain. Magee's quarry is mentioned and the stone from this quarry built St John's Church. Description of the powder magazine, A level that went under a field on Barrule farm, the old wheel case of a water wheel that worked a pump at the mine. Also a shaft down below Lheakerrow farm. When the mines closed all the younger men emigrated to Canada or America. Most of the land in the area is Commonland with rent paid to the Forestry Mines and Lands Board and many miners were living in small houses in the area - some described. Water courses were brought to the mines and dams built to increase the supply to the various water wheels. The old roads to the south of the Island are mentioned.
