Scope & Content: This deposit consists of legal documents, accounts, correspondence and miscellaneous farming and personal papers in which Moore, Kinnish, Creer and other Manx family connections are recorded. It includes regular, newsy letters home from John Moore to his father and separately to his mother and other relatives whilst completing National Service between 1955 and 1957, part of which was spent in North Africa (Benghazi and Tobruk).

Administration / Biographical History: John Robert Moore was born at Ballavar, Santon to William and Alice Isobel (nee Moore, of Ballachurry) on 12 July 1935. He died aged 73 on 21 September 2008 and after a funeral service at Malew Church on 26 September his body was interred at Santon cemetery.

Moore was schooled at Douglas High School for Boys and completed National Service between 1955 and 1957 with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) which included time stationed in North Africa. He started out as an agricultural contractor and became an agent for farm machinery and later garage owner and manager. His interest in cars extended to competing in car rallies and owning classic cars, some of which were later hired out for weddings and other functions. He was also first chairman and later deputy chairman of the Manx Transport Museum Group. Formerly Isle of Man County Chairman of the Royal British Legion and Chairman of the Castletown and District Branch, Mr Moore was a founder member of the Memorial Preservation Society, formed to look after War Memorials on the Island. Other charitable concerns included the Francis Drake Trust and Malew Endowments Committee.
