Date(s): 2009
Creator(s): Jackson, Paul
Scope & Content: The biographical sketch recalls Hugh's early life in Ballasalla, schooling at the High School, Douglas, service in the Ballasalla Home Guard and work at Malew Engineering as a lathe operator and later at Martin Bakers, now Ronaldsway Aircraft Company, where he worked on machining ejector seat parts until retirement in 1988. His family, hobbies, church life, Blue Badge guide work and other matters are mentioned also.
Administration / Biographical History: Hugh Jackson, often called 'Hughie' although he preferred Hugh, was born on 21 November 1926. He was previously Church Warden at Malew Parish Church where he regularly attended as he preferred the 1662 service. Latterly, although attending Malew regularly, he acted as Church Warden at St Mark's, attending the monthly evensong service and delivering a reading. He wrote, asking each new Bishop to undertake his funeral service and so Bishop Robert, assisted by Reverend Michael Roberts, conducted the service when Hugh died on 14 February 2009.
