Date(s): early 20th century
Scope & Content: John Francis Dunne was born at Port St Mary in 1884. In 1898 he joined his father's regiment, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. When the regiment took part in the South African War, Dunne was with them as a bugler. He was wounded at the Battle of Colenso and was feted by the press for continuing to sound his bugle.
