Entry to the old Assembly Rooms, Douglas
Date(s): 1932-1934
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'A better print of the entry to the old Assembly Rooms, and also that to the small cottage at the rear. A coat of whitewash applied for August Bank-Holiday week, when this was taken, (1934), brightens up the picture. Over the door on R, there is a small white card. Stepping forward to investigate, I found thereon, 'Comfortable accommodation' - in the cottage at the rear. It was a crowded week, and large numbers had to be put up in outlying districts. I feel sure that such as stayed in the cottage would be 'comfortable' enough - in clean quarters anyhow'.
