Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'The old Fort rampart at high tide. Enlarged from a stereo print of about 1860. From old MS in Museum, written by Thomas Denton, and dated 1681. (Douglas) 'At ye enterance to ye town there stands a little small ffort like a little Pinfold or large Limekilne, where there are a few guns, and a fewer person to gaurd yn''. Additional notes: 'It must be borne in mind that, when the fort functioned, the river flowed past the Pollock Rocks and joined the sea on the line of the present Victoria Pier'.
