Woodhouse Terrace, South Quay, Douglas

Date(s): 1932-1934

Creator(s): Frowde, John James

Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'The remaining portion of Woodhouse Terrace on the South Quay. Fannin's Map (17?9) has an engraving of these houses, with the caption 'View from the residence of His Grace the Duke of Atholl.' That, of course was what is now the Douglas Hotel. The identity of the houses is unmistakeable, allowing for alterations to what was, for many years, Mr Moses Hampton's shop. In the engraving, seaward of the houses, there is a vessel with a high stern, suggesting a ship builder's yard at that spot'.
