Miss Margaret Taubman - photograph of a painting by Gainsborough

Scope & Content: Died 1778 - daughter of John Taubman (Speaker), from a portrait by Gainsborough. This portrait was sold by the Taubmans and was for some time in the possession of Sir William Bromet KCB. His collection was sold to the Anderson Galleries in New York in 1932 and Margaret Taubman was bought by Mr T. V. Kroll for £4,600. The Art authorities in New York have since lost trace of it (it was reported to be in the Bache collection but this is not the case). She was the first wife of John Christian Curwen, HK, MP and mother of Deemster John Christian.
