St Barnabas Square, Douglas

Date(s): 1929

Creator(s): Frowde, John James

Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'No.4 in previous prints, filled the whole of the East side of the Square. Nos 2 & 3, herein, filled the whole of the opposite and wider side. Con? Of 'Square' mis a later annotation. Square was a misnoma; actually a sort of truncated pyramid. (sketch included). This is the best photo of the 'Square' I have ever seen - while occupied - I think, and it gives a realistic idea of the cobbled paved area. Being a 160 film, to get a pc enlargement involves cutting off either or both of the narrow ends of the oblong. Mrs Corkan's film. Cruinnaght 1st prize 1929'. Additional note: 'This comes out very well in both my 1/2 plate and more than whole plate series. Replaced - cut down - and done pc - put at end of Square next sepia of this view vert no. fitted into vacant space earlier'.
