Fort Street, Douglas
Date(s): 1932-1934
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'As neither of the two preceeding items are due for present demolition (Praise be!), this old building can be included in the set. It stands at the extreme N end of the old Fort Street, past the intersection of, or by, Victoria Street. In Wood's 1833 Plan, it is described as Poor (or Poors) House and stood out on the shore. The lower portion is now a Garage, but, the weather worn chimney stack with serrated corners and ? mortar having been eroded by the storms of a century, is eloquent of age'. Additional note: ' 'Poors' is the spelling'.
