Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Harbour area. Own plate. c. 1898-9. The old Tuscan Tower, (to quote my old chum Archie Knox,) on the end of the Red Pier'. Additional notes: 'For many years, prior to 1911, I saw the New Year in at the end of the Red Pier. Story of Robbie Knox and the Corporation hopper-barge at 12pm. Geo Kelly and self at end of Red Pier in a Scotch mist, with vessel entering the harbour and blowing her siren off. Robbie had heard the continuous noise and came belting down the pier in just shirt and pants thinking it was the Rose Ann in trouble and all the way from Athols Street.' : 'Arcade without verandah'.
