Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Arches other than passages - a few of many such. Staircase of Rev. R. Brown's House part of the old Grammar School leading to the cavernous cellar let to Spirit Merchants and forming a good portion of his income from rents. Bottom end of the stone stairway from the house of the old Grammar School in New Bond St. in which T. E. Brown was born. The immense cellar was let as a Spirit Store and the rent formed the greater portion of the Rev. Robt. Brown's income (see the Rev. H. S. Brown's reminiscences). Gelignite had to be used to the cellar arch to disintegrate it (letter from Mr. A. N. Bridge to me)'.
