The Archway, South Quay, Douglas
Date(s): 1932-1934
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'The Archway, South Quay. The shop with the 'Capstan' ad. has an outlet, and in the top back room of it lived for years old Pierre Joseph Jean Henri Baume the miser whose diet was largely comprised of a confection of snails and green cabbage. Thomas Henry Royston was one of his collectors. Baume would lower a basket by a string from the window of his top back room, and the collectors would see their contributions drawn up by their recipient'.
