Space previously occupied by no. 19 New Bond Street, Douglas
Date(s): n.d. [1932-1934]
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Space previously occupied by No 19 New Bond St & the old Step-down Inn: with the east end of the old Grammar School never previously photographed 'head-on'. Far end of Durie Lane at the turning masked by the wooden fence. The old sandstone coat of arms of the Athole family seen between the windows on the gable of the old school. Only the semblance of a casque and shield now visible but in my earlier days some detail of the design was discernible. 'Athol Family & Kneale'? Much more likely that of Alderman Dixon or Dickson of Dublin, native of Douglas, who gave the site of Dixon House & Garden for the Grammar School'.
