Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Extensive rear of L'pool & M/C Arms. Large building centre actually Ellison's (Louis) covered stables. I had always imagined them as an open space in the centre of the block. Earlier, this was Topliss' Billiard Saloon, adjunct to the Lancashire Inn or House - lower portion at one time, unspecified, Royal Hotel Stables. (Fred Leach viva voce) Topliss, Railway hand, club foot, in my early days one of the Lane Hotel lot'.
