St Barnabas Square, Douglas
Date(s): n.d. [1932-1934]
Creator(s): Frowde, John James
Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'Corner of St. Barnabas' Square. No.2 with cavernous cellar as had No.3 (out of view) on L. in which Mr 'Lebu' Clague used to store his fleet of small boats every winter. A writer in the Illus. London News (in the seventies) said that this secluded cobbled square, with the Church, made him think of the continental cities, a thought that had occurred to me before I read the article recently. I had Geneva in my mind, behind S. Pierre Cathedral. The distance from the lamp to the Custom House wall is only 33 feet'.
