Scope & Content: On the back of this photograph Frowde writes, 'From the front of Fort Anne to L side corner of Imperial Hotel - to whole plate - size of this print if it will admit of it with clear definition. Marina Terrace intact. Clarke's Peveril house not built, nor the large boarding houses between the Central Hotel (standing alone) and the terrace of small houses - now fronted with shops - built by Kelly, "American Jack", brother of Kelly the Spulker (sepulchre from a house he built early on that had such an appearance). He was grandfather of Mr S J Kaye LWS. Iron Pier in situ, removed about 1895 circ. And no swing bridge, built or finished 1896 circ. (Herald). Ellan Vannin leaving port. Simultaneous demolition of the Pier Inn and the Steam Packet Vaults on either side of the site of the SPCo Shed on the N Quay'.
