Scope & Content: Telegrams sent to author Thomas Henry Hall Caine from various sources including Austin Brereton (21 August 1894), John Ruskin (26 July 1895), Heinemann (3 September 1894), Wilson Barrett (18 August and 29 September 1894) and Pawling (3 August 1894). The telegram dated 26 October 1901 concerns Caine's majority in the House of Keys.
The telegram from John Ruskin is sent on the occasion of the Sir Walter Besant Dinner and reads, 'I am in true sympathy with you tonight. Convey my respectful greetings to all present who are doing well deserved honour to Sir Walter Besant to whom please give my congratulations. John Ruskin'. A pencil annotation in Caine's hand inserts the word 'heartfelt' before 'congratulations'.
