'What impact has the TT races on the tourism at the Isle of Man and what would happen if the races were closed?'

Date(s): 2007

Creator(s): Tollstam, Catharina

Scope & Content: English class assignment essay by student of tourism educated in Sweden. The author notes the impact, assessed from comparative statistics, for the year 2001 when the races were cancelled due to precautions during the foot and mouth epidemic elsewhere in the British Isles. She also draws on responses received from hotel and pub owners to questions about potential consequences of ending of the races, the effect of the 2001 cancellation and whether they believed the Manx people are for or against the TT races. The purpose of the project is to find out how it would affect the Isle of man if the TT races were closed and if the ordinary tourist flow is enough to keep the Island's tourism faculties running. Chapters covered: about the Isle of Man; the unique TT races; foot and mouth disease 2001; statistics for departures and accommodation; sample of questionnaire.
