Scope & Content: Recording is introduced by Clive Orford of Peel Heritage Trust. The recording was made during a talk Mr Lowey gave in Peel Heritage Centre on 18/3/10. Eddie begins by explaining that he spent his early childhood in Peel. He talks about home life; childhood social life; his family; life in Peel during the latter part of the Second World War, as seen through the eyes of a child. He explains how Peel and its people influenced his time as both an MHK (Member of the House of Kets) and an MLC, involved in projects such as the Manx Shipping Register. He tells some interesting stories of his role in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, including meeting such people as Nelson Mandela.
He mentions Tim Crookall (sitting MHK at the time) and Hazel Hannan who preceded Mr Crookall.
Administration / Biographical History: Edmund ('Eddie') Lowey MLC (born 12 February 1938) was a Manx politician and was a Member of the Legislative Council in the Isle of Man. The talk was given at Peel Heritage Centre.
