Jennifer talks about how when she retired from teaching she embarked on her career as a journalist in 1979; getting a piece in 'The Star' newspaper; friend, Emily; difficulties of submitting copy by bus three times a week and the move to computers; her reporting area of Peel, Glen Maye, Marown, Kirk Michael and Dalby, St Johns and Foxdale; reporting on public meetings, fayres, carnival princess competitions; how articles were edited; covering the opening of QE2 school and events at Peel Cathedral for 'The Examiner', 'The Times' and 'The Star' newspapers; interesting people she met; becoming a Court, Obituary and Tynwald reporter with Carol Little; being witness at a case against Jack Irving; how the police did their own prosecuting in court; Sergeant Leece; her feelings about certain court cases; how she was asked by a Court Clerk not to report on a case concerning King William's College; how she enjoyed the challenge of court reporting; the court Press Box and overhearing the Deemster; various anecdotes about court cases; reporting on Tynwald for 'The Peel City Guardian' newspaper; writing obituaries; changes to the newspapers including 'The Examiner', 'The Star' and 'The Times'; newspaper owner Mr Door and strike in the 1980s; social side; sport reporting; reporting over the telephone; work with Charles Guard; working in Peel with the school and young people; 'Guardian' important as the only independent Manx newspaper left.
