Stanley Karran talks to Bill Quine and Roy Christian about his life and Cregneash. Stanley talks about his father’s time at sea; visits by Dr Lewthwaite the local doctor; his going to Port St Mary to school with others from Cregneash, Glen Chass and The Howe; groceries and bread deliveries by cart; family and others owning cows and how his mother said milk was always free at Cregneash; leaving school aged 14 and becoming an apprentice plumber and aircraft engineer in the Royal Navy.

He talks about local place names including Spanish Head; the Calf farmed by the Carey family; mother as dairy maid; his work as plumber on the Calf; burial places; building of the Thousla Stack and the lighthouse on Chicken Rock; the brig ‘Lily’ disaster; local place names; ice-house at Kentraugh House; boat 'Clementina' and the model; his time in Australia and the Pacific, including during the Second World War, and his return to civilian life.
