Transcription of 1946 letter from Johnnie Clucas to his sisters Hilda and Jessie in the USA

Scope & Content: Clucas recounts in diary fashion a holiday to Peel, Isle of Man from Scotland in July 1946 with his wife Cissie. He recalls with great fondness sea travel aboard the 'Mona's Queen', lodging with Mrs Cannon on Church Street, Peel and the many named Peel people and activities engaged with during the stay including excursions to Dalby and Port Erin. He writes, 'I had a talk with Jack Hinds about the Mongoose that caused .. over in Dalby some years ago. It seems its proper name was "pole cat" '.
A transcribed footnote by a Joe Clucas who sent the letter back from America notes details about Johnnie Clucas's upbringing in Peel and treatment from his father when drunk.; also that Johnnie served time as a painter in Clinton's, joined the Navy in the First World War and met and married a Salvation Army woman. The couple went on to serve as Salvation Army Majors, stationed in Glasgow, Scotland. An additional foot note by Annie Wood reads, 'This Joe Clucas was a brother of Jimmy and Evan Clucas and he sent the letter home to Jimmy and Annie. Several of the facts recorded are not correct. A.
