Robert Bruce's traction engine towing Bonner Road rail wagon

Scope & Content: The traction engine is a Wallace and Stevens which was supplied new to Robert Bruce of Ramsey in March 1905. It was later sold to G. Percy Kermode of The Creggans, Ballasalla. He sold all his engines for scrap in 1947 and this one made its way to the Greeba laundry. The Bonner Wagon was especially designed for road and rail transport by the Bonner Wagon Co of Toledo, Ohio. They were 13' long by 6' wide with a boggie which slid underneath and raised the road wheels off the ground enabling it to then run on metal railway wheels. The Manx Electric Railway shipped these to the Island for use principally at the Dhoon Quarry. Three of these wagons entered into service on 1 September 1899.
