Steamer 'Donegal' ashore at Port Cranstal, Bride
Date(s): 1890-1920
Creator(s): Southward, Francis
Scope & Content: The Midland Railway Company vessel 'Donegal' was on passage from Heysham to Belfast when she ran aground at Cranstal near the gravel pits jetty at Point of Ayre in thick fog on 2 October 1908. The following day her sister ship 'Antrim' attempted to pull her off the beach at high tide, but failed. The 'Donegal' was eventually refloated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company vessel 'Ellan Vannin'. A little more than a year latter 'Ellan Vannin' was lost on the Mersey Bar.
