Scope & Content: Masters dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland. The dissertation examines the 'notion of nation'. Theoretical tools used were critical discursive psychology, interpretative repertoires, ideological dilemmas and subject positions. Two methods of data collection were used, namely computer mediated communication and acquaintance interviews. Chapters cover: Isle of Man historical background and symbols that separate; social psychology and identity; theorizing and probematizing the nation; research orientation and questions; analysis and discussion of themes. Appendices include interview schedule; glossary; Moreno question for cultural identity and the idea of belonging.
