'The Queen of Mann Final

SHE OWES THE CASINO A BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE!

Pretty brunette Mrs Louise Holden, a licensee of a public house in Calow, Chesterfield, was so sure that she would not win the title of “Queen of Man” at the finals of the bathing beauty competition at the Villa Marina yesterday afternoon that she bet the casino where she is staying a bottle of champagne!

For this 25 year-old it was the sixth time lucky in the competition, she has been in the final for the event for the past six years. The winner of the title “Queen of Man” received a cash prize of £100, a sash and silver rose bowl.

There was a tie for second place between “Miss Tynwald” Mrs Mollie Morton (right) of Blackpool and “Miss Sulby” Joanne Ford (left) of Liverpool.' (Thursday 5 September 1963, Isle of Man Examiner)
