The author attempts to fill the gap of the shortage of quantitative data regarding differences in attitude to identity among local and incomer groups; also the effect of immigration on cultural and national identity. The dissertation concludes that the there is a an impact from migrants (demographic, economic, social and attitudinal). Kinship, community and persistence of place are identified as some of the factors marking Manx identity.
