Scope & Content: Illustrated essay submitted as BA Theatre and Performance Technology coursework to the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The author sets out the background to the August 1973 fire at the Douglas sea front leisure centre and its aftermath and considers the failings of the design as well as of the regulatory systems surrounding the building's design and operation. He notes that certain lessons were learnt and applied from the disaster but that flawed skyscrapers using improper materials have been erected in places such as Dubai.
