Letter from William Quillin, London to Mark H Quayle, Castletown, Isle of Man
Date(s): 22 April 1891
Creator(s): Quillin, William
Scope & Content: Quillin acknowledges receipt of Mark's letter of 19 April. Captain Taubman is in London and Kirwan arrived the day before. Quillin is to go to Gravesend with John (brother to Mark, about to sail on the Indiaman). Mention of Mr Fargher and the ship Bellerephon. Quillin would love to go to India himself, but has not the money nor the influence, as he is not on good terms with the Duke of Atholl to obtain a recommendation to his friend Mr Dundas. He expects John to sail the beginning of May. Quillin finds no opportunities in business and may return to the Island soon. He discourages Mark from thinking of trying for a position in London and advises him to be content with his present position and success. Quillin has an army list from John for Mark and a parcel from John for another brother Basil. Mention of Thomas Castley. Sargent Lightfoot has not been well.
