Administration / Biographical History: This was an extra-mural student project involving the processing and preliminary assessment of the more than one thousand worked flints that were recovered from excavations at the early medieval site of Kiondroghad (NX 396 002), details of which were not included in the 1969 publication: Gelling, P. S. 1969, 'A metal working site at Kiondroghad Kirk Andreas, Isle of Man' in Medieval Archaeology 13, 67-83.

The preliminary assessment included 283 life-size pencil drawings of the most complete blades and scrapers from the collection and included tabulated striking platforms, and length and width measurements. An attempt at classifying the flints into five groups according to form was completed and the finds were washed, labelled and packed for archiving. There is also additional discussion about the finds with Manx National Heritage, prior to the project summary publication.
