'Crosses and Keeills: Early Ecclesiastical Organisation on the Isle of Man'
Date(s): 2005
Creator(s): Jeavons, Dan
Scope & Content: Illustrated Modern History dissertation submitted via Pembroke College, University of Oxford. The author sets out to explore whether there was an early ecclesiastical system on the Isle of Man and, if so, the form it took; also whether Norse settlers imposed a new system. He places the Isle of Man in context, noting Christian development in surrouding regions (chapter 1), proceeding to anaylse evidence of integration (the arciform and aexafoil cross distributions) in chapter 2. The evidence for continuous development is set out in chapter 3 followed by a potential model for the early Manx ecclesiastical system (chapter 4), conclusions, a bibliography and appendices.
