Scope & Content: Comprise a ticket issued on 7 October 1911 by the Great Eastern Railway & General Steam Navigation Co. Ltd - provided Heinrich Paul Tarre with passage from Hamburg to London; also Tarre’s identity book issued in 1908 which has a stamp issued by the Consulate General in London on the 15 August 1914, eleven days after the UK declared war on Germany; postcard of Handforth 'Kriegsgefangenen Lager' (civilian internment camp), colour illustrated menu ofr the Christmas meal in Knockaloe Camp, 1915, three greeting postcards for Christmas and one for Easter from Knockaloe.

Administration / Biographical History: Tarre was born on 2 June 1888 at Sholitz, Merseburg, part of the Prussian province of Saxony. He moved to the UK in 1911 having previously lived in Leipzig, Paris and Brussels. On 3 August 1914 he married his fiancee at St Mary's Church, Stogumber, Somerset.
