Ramsey town hall
Date(s): early 20th century
Creator(s): Southward, Francis
Scope & Content: The town hall design was the result of an architectural competition won by Mr Berrington in May 1888, claiming a £10 prize. By August 1889 the building was handed over to Ramsey Commissioners. On the first floor windows behind the decorative street lamp are the words 'school committee'. The building included a fire station housing a horse drawn fire engine. When the fire engine was changed the arched brickwork above the door was removed and replaced by a straight lintel at a higher level so that the new engine could get in.
