W. Schneider Sidecar number 5 TT (Tourist Trophy) races
Date(s): 1958
Scope & Content: W. Schneider Sidecar number 5, passing through Onchan on the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) Clypse course.
In 1955 the Sidecar Race on the Clypse course was won by Walter Schneider and his passenger Hans Strauss on a BMW outfit. They also won in 1958 and 1959, again on a BMW.
The 10.79-mile Clypse Course was used for the first time in 1954 for the Sidecar and Ultra Lightweight races. The Lightweight (250cc) race was moved to the Clypse Course in 1955.
Starting at the Grandstand, the course turned right at the top of Bray Hill along Ballanard Road to Willaston Corner, (Johnny Watterson’s Lane) and then right to Cronk ny Mona. The course then continued on the Mountain course in the reverse direction, to Creg-ny-Baa, where it turned right and went through a series of bends, to the "5 1/2" to join the main Laxey to Onchan road. After going through Whitebridge to Onchan Village there was a right turn at the Manx Arms to Signpost Corner, where they rejoined the Mountain course back through Bedstead and Governor’s Bridge, omitting the dip to the Grandstand.
