Scope & Content: Track 1: Dollin Kelly talks to John Beckerson about his summer job driving tourist coaches in the Isle of Man in the 1950s, 60s. He talks about his mother and the summer tourist trade; how during the Second World War his family entered the haulage trade from Gordon Maddrell; his mother’s family and her skills as a mechanic; how he was employed by Norman Crellin to drive tourist coaches; the coaches; customers; coach routes; cost of coaches; hackney stands on the promenade; business at hotels; coach routes including to the Point of Ayre; popular places being Rushen Abbey, Kirk Braddan, Glen Maye and Niarbyl, Cregneash and the Sound; food for drivers at the tourist sites and money for bringing in tourists; part-time and seasonal coach drivers; the unions.
Track 2: Dollin continue to talk about the unions; 'around the course' commentary for the Manx Grand Prix (MGP) races and the first Manx Radio broadcast of the MGP races; development of the coach industry on the Isle of Man.
