He talks about volunteering for the army signals in May 1940; training and where he was posted including stately home in Retford, Notts.; London; evenings on fire watch; bombings; Hull; Morse code training; bombing; family in Willaston, Isle of Man; preparing for D-Day; meeting his wife and moving to Scotland; posted overseas; Japanese submarines; lettographs sent home from the war; serving in Bengal; food; working with Americans; Arakan jungle; illness; hospitals; re-training; famine in Calcutta, India; sailing on troop ship from Bombay to Liverpool after the war with the band playing at the landing stage, people on top of the buildings and he saw his fiancée Margaret and her sister; his wedding and life after getting married.
Administration / Biographical History: 'Sixty Years On: Wartime Memories 1939-1946' by Harold Lewin Kelly and Isobel Margaret Kelly MBE (nee Buckley). Although trained to land on the beaches of Normandy, Harold was sent to Burma and India, where he spent much of the Second World War.
