Date(s): 22 August 1903
Scope & Content: The cast list includes the first appearance of (then) Master Johnnie Wrangham - John Harris Wrangham became a theatre impressario and friend of Hall Caine.
Administration / Biographical History: Based on the promenade end of Victoria Street, the Grand Theatre was built for the Douglas Grand Hotel, Theatre and Baths Company in 1882. It was located on the site of the Douglas Aquarium Baths, a space that is now Salisbury House and the Jubilee Buildings. In 1888 it was redesigned and rebuilt after more stringent fire regulations were made law. The Grand Theatre underwent further changes to become the Grand Picturedome in 1909 and was later rebuilt as the New Regal Cinema in 1983. Always the site of redevelopment, the Regal Cinema was demolished in the 1980s and the space has now been used for newer buildings.
