Scope & Content: Richard Georgeson of Port St Mary, a former fisherman who now works on the University of Liverpool research vessel the 'Reagan' talks to Matthew Slate. He talks about working in the fishing industry from the age of 15, around 1980; [break in the recording from 3 min. 51 sec. to 5 min. 41 sec.]; loving being at sea despite his chronic seasickness; changes in the industry during his career, including fishing quotas, DTI regulation, rising costs, advances in technology and equipment and over-fishing; decline of the Manx fishing fleet due to the competition from large boats from elsewhere; how Manx crews are smaller, which can compromise safety; and he recalls the good times he had fishing.
