Scope & Content: Tracks 1 and 2: Arthur talks about his return to Brize Norton after compassionate leave, winter of 1939-1940; songs he sang at concerts; being examined by Medical Officer Dr Guy Pantin and being discharged from army due to epilepsy and returning home; later receiving call-up papers for his age group and time spent with Joyce before his return to Second World War service with the Royal Corps of Signals; attending the recruiting Office and going to Liverpool, Selwyn Lace, Bill Kelly and Arty Brooks; reporting to Prestatyn Training Camp; the training, forming a band and his retention at the camp to help with training; Cliff Davies; a visit home; how Joyce wrote to him finishing their relationship; being discharged a second time after it was discovered that he had lied about his previous army service; visiting family at Port Sunlight; how Joyce had gone to Southport to train as a nurse at the Sunshine Home For Blind Babies and how they continued to correspond; forming band 'Arthur Addams and His Rhythm Boys' with Lenny Hewton and Freddie Callow [racist term used at school) and the concerts they played; Harold Moorhouse, Sam Acres, Caroll Gibbins and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans; work at the Post Office, John Lewin and Ned Askew, Eddie and Maisie Collister; various military training camps in the Isle of Man and the strain these put on the postal system.
