'Our Water Supply'

Scope & Content: Illustrated handwritten 'Advanced General Science thesis' submitted to the City of Leeds Training College, Scarborough during teacher training 1942-1944. Chapter six contents cover the water supply of Douglas touching on its history, the reservoirs and other sources, treatment for impurities and the service reservoirs at Glencrutchery and Ballaquayle.
In chapter eight the author explains why the topic of 'Our Water Supply' is a suitable project for Junior and Senior Schools, embracing physics, chemistry, geography, geology, biology and hygiene. Chapter nine contains the results of qualitative analysis of various samples of water procured from the Isle of Man and from Blackburn, Hudderstield and Scarborough. The Manx samples were taken from impure water flowing in from the Baldwin reservoir and from spring water used by Tromode farm inhabitants, spring water used by Castleward Cottage inhabitants, spring water used by Hilberry residents, well water used by inhabitants of Bridge House, Braddan, shallow well water from Tromode village and Filtration Plant pure water used by Douglas and Onchan residents.
