Creator(s): University of California
Scope & Content: John Kneen speaking Manx, recorded by Carmody, 1949. The recording begins in the middle of a story about going to Douglas; he tells a story about the fairies holding a market at Ballaugh and how fairies from other countries came in small boats; they talk about the weather, how dry it is and not much is growing, but he says it's wet enough where he lives (in the Curraghs); a chapel made of sods, a fairy meadow and seeing fairies at the gate, how there are still fairies; and he talks about his plans for his 100th birthday (in two years). He is asked if he know the story of The Vixen (a Peel built schooner wrecked 1864) and he recounts what he knows; and he is asked if he knows the story of a man who was hanged at Sulby but he does not want to speak about it.
