'A Living Centenarian. The Story of John Norman Barron'

Scope & Content: Illustrated ringbound typescript memoirs produced by 'Margaret and Janet' from longhand text written by their father, a resident of Corrin Memorial Home, Peel in November 2009. It was produced for family circulation with an extra copy provided to a contact in the Corrin Home.
Mr Barron was born in Kirk Michael, the eldest of nine children. He recounts family circumstances, childhood, upbringing, young adult and working life, marriage in January 1939, social life and the onset of the Second World War. Having signed up he served in the Royal Artillery Anti Aircraft Section known as the 'Ack Ack', stationed at Gilbraltar and at Sheerness. He continues recalling family and subsequent work life back in the Isle of Man, memorable events and landmarks within the family such as his sister Lyn returning to the island in 1976 for the first time since emigrating to New Zealand just after the Second World War (p70). The memoirs close with an account of Mr Barron's 100th birthday celebrations on 21 June 2009. He died sometime after, aged 102.
At the rear are copies of some newscuttings and a poem written to celebrate the 100th birthday.
