Scope & Content: Manuscript extracts from the 'Liber Scaccar' containing orders from Governor Lindesay, in response to the [Jacobite] rising in Scotland, to the Captain and Constable at Peel Castle [these orders were also sent to Ramsey, Douglas and Castletown]; the first order, original dated 23 September 1745, states the militia are to be placed at an hour's notice to assemble and resist any landings made by the rebels on the island, and that new arrivals to the isle are to be examined, and if suspicious, brought before the Governor; the second order, original dated 11 November 1745, states that all strangers to the island are to be examined, and their names and details on their business forwarded to the Governor, and again, if they appear to be suspicious, they are to be brought before him.
